NIKKI SIXX Says He Has No Worries About Being Perceived As A Has-Been
May 6, 2004BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION bassist Nikki Sixx (ex-MÖTLEY CRÜE) has told the Hartford Advocate that he has no worries about being perceived as a cliché or has-been.
"I don't really give a fuck," he said. "You know, rock 'n' roll cliché is only a cliché because of the followers. Take grunge cliché — well you know Eddie Vedder to me was a pioneer in that genre, but all the other bands with the flannel and that shit, that became a cliché. Like Eddie Vedder, unfortunately, you look at him and you're like fuck, he's like this fucking cliché, with his fuckin' army jacket and his army shorts and you know ... but that's who he is. And Johnny Thunders, from the NEW YORK DOLLS, people can say that's a cliché, who he was -- you know the heroin addict and that kind of raunchy, snotty guitar, but that's who he was. Was Hemingway a cliché because he was the tortured, alcoholic writer? Or was he really being who he was? Or Burroughs with his heroin addiction and his gentleman's suit. Or are they originators and the other people behind them made them into clichés?
"The funniest of all of them is me. I'm the one I can laugh at the most. I am the rock 'n' roll cliché aren't I? Hell yeah! Tattoos head to toe, leather pants, greasy black hair, playmate wife who used to be on 'Baywatch'. You know, life is good." [Read more]
